Dedicated to Lisa
Beauty is one of my favorites.
It is about struggle through adversity
& the tragedy of not making it through.
It was inspired by the loss of a friend to suicide.
I feel there are two parts to this song.
The second part is about having survived
my own turmoil.
Beauty is about strength of spirit.
Striving to find the beauty in this sometimes
cruel & cold world.
I wrote Walk With Me while staying in a cabin
on a communal farm in Queensland.
Surrounded by tall forest & in peaceful
seclusion it was a time of feeling very open,
alive & connected with the world around me.
Walk With Me is about being one with the
world & mostly the people in it.
To feel one is to share in each others joy & pain.
Walk With Me is about walking together
in unconditional love & selflessness.
Fine Time is about unfaithfulness.
Rightly one should feel pain in regard
to having been unfaithful.
Fine Time is also about the pain we feel
as the victim of unfaithfulness.
Sometimes feeling blue is the right thing to feel.
Unfortunate it is to hurt the one we love & lose
a valued relationship.
A fine time it is after the fact to now regret
our actions.
I regard Rubies & Gold to be one of the best
songs I have written.
I composed it on the guitar while living in
a very old house in Brisbane with friends.
It was perhaps the poorest I have ever been.
Yet I was happy because I had laughter
and music in my life.
Rubies & Gold is about the misconception
of happiness being related to having money.
Rubies & Gold is one of the only songs I have
written with a particular concept in mind.
I have always enjoyed performing this song
because of the meaning it holds.
Also, because my audience always enjoyed
it and was my most requested song.
I would like to reproduce Rubies & Gold.
I also have a clip in mind which I would love
to bring to life.
It is happiness we all seek.
There is only one thing in the whole entire
universe that will bring you true happiness
& that is happiness itself.
Gentle Morning was truly a joy to have
created. My ideal way to create.
Completely in the moment, Jai & I were
jamming and felt very connected to what
we were hearing and so literally hit "record".
The result was 'Gentle Morning' an entirely
improvised song.
We really liked it and so listened back and
practiced what we had played and sung
to include it in our live set.
The reverse of the usual.
At the time I had no concept in mind.
Listening back I felt the lyrics came from my
personal experience of losing a loved one.
In this context Gentle Morning also became
gentle mourning.
I like that it is a light song about death
and the last line ‘life goes on’.
This song has always been an emotional
one for me.
It was written for & about my mother.
Suffering from depression I had been staying
with her as I tried to get my life back on track.
Which did happen.
However she was very upset when I decided
to move away, leaving everything yet again
to play music.
Fool's Ride was inspired by my mothers words. She feared I would only return lost, when everything should fall apart & she would be
the one picking up the pieces.
My mother is a wonderful woman
and it broke my heart to upset her.
However I had to follow my heart & most alive
in my heart has always been my calling toward music.
So I moved to Highland Studios & created
my 1st CD with Fool's Ride appearing on it.
I felt even more driven to succeed musically
at that point because I never wanted to hurt
my beautiful mother again & I guess I wanted
to make up for having done just that.
Love you mum.
